The class begins with a slower paced rhythmic warm-up to increase blood flow & to warm up the muscles. The body of the class combines all moves so that each one smoothly flows, or transitions into another, creating a lot of body heat (you will sweat) as you use your own body weight to build strength and burn fat.
The last portion of the class focuses on relaxation! As hard as it may be to believe, some of us need to be "taught" how to relax--how to "unclinch", how to let the mind rest. And trust me, by the time we reach the "relaxation" part of the class--you will have earned it.
The class is performed in a low light setting--sometimes with candles. The music is slow when it needs to be, strong & rhythmic during stronger poses and very restful during the relaxation portions of class.
FitWit Flow II is the same as above but moves at a faster pace. The poses require more strength and balance moves are held longer. If you are looking for more challange then this is the class you want to test your abilities in. Even if you need to back off here & there..you still move at your own pace in this class and can take a break any time you need it.
Check "Tips for Beginners" if you are just starting a fitness program.
Equipment used in class
All items listed below are provided at studio. All you need to do is show up!
Items always used:
Mats & towels--located just as you come in & in the back of the room next to the yoga mats.
Optional items:
Blocks-used to bridge the gap between your hands and the floor until you become more flexible...and you will!
Dynabands-sometimes used to enhance stretching or to provide added resistance.
Discretionary items:
BOSU-used to add an extra layer of challenge to strength & balance exercises. Not sure what a BOSU is? Click here, "BOSU" for more info about BOSUs.
Attire
Wear comfortable clothing that moves with you. Try not to wear over-sized tee-shirts because they will end up falling down over your head each time you bend forward.
FitWit Flow is performed without shoes but it is OK to leave your socks on if you are more comfortable that way.
You may want to bring a clip or band to pull your hair back to keep it out of your face.
Fitness & Skill Levels in classes...
In the past I have separated the classes into beginner/intermediate and Intermediate/Advanced but what I have found is that folks come to class based on the time slot NOT the class description. Therefore, I pace the classes according to who shows up--with the exception of FitWit Flow II, it is a more advanced class. If the class has a mix of skill levels, I will instruct to all levels--giving easier & harder versions of each pose.
However, I do consider a "beginner" to be someone unfamiliar with the exercises but fit enough to get down on the floor and back up off the floor.
It is never my intention to preclude anyone from trying class--everyone should try it. But if you have physical limitations, then a class setting may be unsafe and not suited to your individual needs.
What I do recommend is that you schedule some Personal Training (PT) sessions with me so that you can learn how to modify your movements so that class will be an enjoyable experience. If you cannot afford PT sessions, call me anyway--we WILL work something out.
Personal training sessions (30, 45 or 60 min) will help you learn how to modify poses for your particular limitations: bad back, bad knees, wrist problems or just to familiarize yourself with the mechanics of the moves.
